Many nurses may be familiar with life coaching or executive coaching. Coaching is a partnership between coach and client. The coaching process is designed to support clients as they work toward fulfilling personal and professional goals. While life and executive coaching may be the most well-known forms of coaching, the approach and methods of coaching have been extrapolated into other areas or niches. One of these is AD/HD coaching. “A designed partnership that combines coaching skills with knowledge of attention deficit disorder, a neurobiological condition. The coaching process enhances quality of life, improves performance, and supports growth and change. The purpose of AD/HD coaching is to provide support, structure, and accountability. Coach and client collaboratively explore strengths, talents, tools, and new learning to increase self-awareness and personal empowerment. Together they design strategies and actions and monitor progress by creating accountability in line with goals and aspirations” (IAAC, 2007). AD/HD coaching was brought into the spotlight as an intervention for the treatment of adult AD/HD by Hallowell and Ratey (1994) in their seminal book, Driven to Distraction. At that time, professionals focused mainly on educational accommodations and therapy for children and teens with AD/HD. Little had been written about coaching for youth with AD/HD, and the focus on youth coaching was centered on academics. Academic and educational coaches were available to students needing support, with a strong recommendation of academic coaching for struggling students with AD/HD and learning disabilities. Help4ADD@HighSchool (Nadeau, 1998) was one of the first books to discuss AD/HD coaching on a larger scale, reaching beyond simply academic coaching. In her book, Dr. Nadeau states, “Coaching is one of the best ways to deal with your ADD. A coach provides external structure and support, and teaches [you] how to develop your own internal structure” (p. 62). Coaching helps children and teens with AD/HD with several key challenges they face. First, coaching helps a child/teen learn techniques for maintaining focus, stay on task, and improve time management and organizational skills. The development of these skills can contribute to smoother family life and improved school performance. These skills are also the building blocks for future success. Second, by initiating the coaching process with school-aged children, coaches are able to help students with AD/HD avoid frustration and keep motivated, as well as help them build self-confidence and self-awareness during the formative years. Third, most children benefit from daily routines and structures, and building structure and predictability through routines is an effective tool for parents of challenging children with AD/HD (Heininger Weiss, 2001). Yet, routines can be difficult for the child with AD/HD to maintain, and a busy parent can easily be thrown off a routine when a child has AD/HD. Additionally, many parents of children and teens with AD/HD have attentional issues themselves and find it difficult to keep up with a plan on a daily basis. With the support of a well-trained AD/HD coach (IAAC, 2007), effective structure and routines can be developed and sustained, facilitating the consistency that allows children with AD/HD and related behavioral issues to thrive. This can be done with support, care, and humor to protect and build the self-esteem of everyone involved.

By KENNETH LASSITER Bankruptcies declined 13 percent in Kansas last year, partly because a healthy economy provided consumers enough money to pay their debts, a bankruptcy attorney said. The total number of bankruptcy cases filed in the Kansas District of U.S. Bankruptcy Court in 1999 fell to 11,555 in 1999 from 13,252 in the previous year. The number of bankruptcies filed in the Topeka office decreased by 16 percent, from 3,553 to 2,985, while the Kansas City and Wichita offices of the bankruptcy court experienced decreases of 12 and 11 percent from 1998, respectively. Paul Post, a Topeka attorney who has handled bankruptcies since 1978 and who still handles more than 100 bankruptcies for clients per year, said bankruptcies decreased because of the state of the U.S. economy in 1999.

Ever since CPSC revised its childrens clothing flammability standard, there have been outcries that children are not being protected from accidental injury caused by fire. The data showed, however, a dramatic drop in burn injuries related to childrens clothing. Now, CPSC will have an excellent data collection tool to get accurate counts on burns related to childrens clothing. The agency has a cooperative effort with the American Burn Association and Shriners Hospitals for Children, called the National Burn Center Reporting System. At the same time, CPSC is working cooperatively with the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) to attempt to retrieve and preserve the clothing involved in such burn injuries. The NASFM has recommended that a committee consisting of the National Volunteer Fire Council, the National Fire Protection Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and NASFM develop a protocol for use by “first responders” across the country. INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY In order to take advantage of credit portfolio management opportunities, however, management must first answer several technical questions: What is the risk of a given portfolio? How do different macroeconomic scenarios, at both the regional and the industry sector level, affect the portfolios risk profile? What is the effect of changing the portfolio mix? How might risk-based pricing at the individual contract and the portfolio level be influenced by the level of expected losses and credit risk capital? This paper describes a new and intuitive method for answering these technical questions by tabulating the exact loss distribution arising from correlated credit events for any arbitrary portfolio of counterparty exposures, down to the individual contract level, with the losses measured on a marked-to-market basis that explicitly recognises the potential impact of defaults and credit migrations.1 The importance of tabulating the exact loss distribution is highlighted by the fact that counterparty defaults and rating migrations cannot be predicted with perfect foresight and are not perfectly correlated, implying that management faces a distribution of potential losses rather than a single potential loss. In order to define credit risk more precisely in the context of loss distributions, the financial industry is converging on risk measures that summarise management-relevant aspects of the entire loss distribution. Two distributional statistics are becoming increasingly relevant for measuring credit risk: expected losses and a critical value of the loss distribution, often defined as the portfolios credit risk capital (CRC). Each of these serves a distinct and useful role in supporting management decision making and control (Exhibit 1). Expected losses, illustrated as the mean of the distribution, often serve as the basis for managements reserve policies: the higher the expected losses, the higher the reserves required. As such, expected losses are also an important component in determining whether the pricing of the credit-risky position is adequate: normally, each transaction should be priced with sufficient margin to cover its contribution to the portfolios expected credit losses, as well as other operating expenses. Credit risk capital, defined as the maximum loss within a known confidence interval (for example, 99 percent) over an orderly liquidation period, is often interpreted as the additional economic capital that must be held against a given portfolio, above and beyond the level of credit reserves, in order to cover its unexpected credit losses. Since it would be uneconomic to hold capital against all potential losses (this would imply that equity is held against 100 percent of all credit exposures), some level of capital must be chosen to support the portfolio of transactions in most, but not all, cases. As with expected losses, CRC also plays an important role in determining whether the credit risk of a particular transaction is appropriately priced: typically, each transaction should be priced with sufficient margin to cover not only its expected losses, but also the cost of its marginal risk capital contribution. In order to tabulate these loss distributions, most industry professionals split the challenge of credit risk measurement into two questions: First, what is the joint probability of a credit event occurring? And second, what would be the loss should such an event occur?

Pitts Enterprises has acquired the assets of Dorsey Trailer, including Dorseys 800,000-sq-ft plant in Elba AL. The purchase was completed June 14, according to Jeff Pitts, president of Pitts Enterprises. Pitts Trailers produces forestry-related trailers while Dynaweld specializes in heavy haul and tag-along trailers. Dorsey Trailer will continue to manufacture a variety of over-the-road trailers bearing the Dorsey nameplate including refrigerated vans, dry freight vans, fruit haul trailers, chip haul trailers, and steel and combo flatbeds. David Dorsey, an Elba native, has been named general manager of Dorsey Trailer.

The Credit Game
Offering trade credit is important to securing export sales - but the bad debt costs of offering export credit can be high. To control these costs, export credit managers seek credit information to determine whether potential foreign buyers are acceptable credit risks. As in the domestic trade credit decision, the export credit manager seeks out information about the buyers credit character and financial strength. However, the additional country and foreign exchange risks involved in exporting extends the credit analysis to include export-specific information.Prior studies on credit information use have focused both on the various sources and items of credit information used and their relative importance. Srinivasan and Kim (1988) and Ewert (1968) provide insight into both the use and relative importance of credit information but looked only at the domestic credit decision within one firm. Talaga and Buch (1992) looked at the credit practices of European subsidiaries of US multinationals and found that they tended to use different information sources and criteria in assessing creditworthiness - even within the same multinational. However, although their findings show clearly that one-firm studies are of limited generalisability, they made no distinction in credit information use between domestic and export sales. Ross and Pike (1992) show that both domestic and export credit risk information are important in the export credit decision but do not address differential credit information use among firms. However, Ross and Pike (1995) also show that managers vary in how they view the financial costs and marketing benefits of export credit, their use of export credit insurance use, and their biodata characteristics - factors which could cause information use to vary among export credit managers. No research has been published on the sources and types of credit information used to evaluate foreign buyers or why export credit information use varies among firms.This paper moves to address this deficiency by providing a relative importance ranking of the various sources and types of credit information used by Canadian export credit managers to evaluate foreign buyers. We then go on to test for the influence of Ross and Pikes factors on export credit information use variance among firms. In so doing, this paper provides the first look at export credit information use by firms - a timely extension of our knowledge of credit information use given the increasing globalisation of firms.The professional credit literature prescribes multiple information sources which can be used for both the domestic and the export credit decision. However, Talaga and Buch (1992) have presented the only evidence of the information sources actually being used by credit managers. The 47 US subsidiaries they surveyed most often used credit reporting systems agencies, past credit history, and past sales history. In addition, they found that “numerous firms also indicated other information sources were used, including contacts with non-competing suppliers and credit collection agency reports”. Talaga and Buch go on to report that information source varied among their 19 German, 16 French and 12 Italian respondents as the Germans tended to check a wider range of sources while the French and Italian firms seemed to place more reliance on the customer in gathering data. Their respondents also indicated that past sales histories and past credit histories were generally perceived to be better than credit agency and bank reports in terms of accuracy, response rapidity, and completeness. However, it is difficult to apply Talaga and Buchs findings about credit information source use to the export credit decision as (1) they do not distinguish between domestic and export credit decisions, (2) their surveys very low response rate precludes statistically significant comparisons, and (3) they do not investigate export-specific sources of credit information. Consequently, important questions remain as to the best information sources for export credit decisions and the factors which affect information source choice.

Mountain Lake Resources Inc. (TSX-V: MOA)
(”Mountain Lake” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that Etruscan
Diamonds (Pty) Ltd. (”Etruscan Diamonds”) has completed the acquisition
from Mvelaphanda Exploration (Pty) Ltd. (”Mvelaphanda Exploration”) of a
50% interest in the Tirisano Diamond Mine located in the Ventersdorp
Alluvial Diamond District of South Africa. Etruscan Diamonds owns the
remaining 50%. The Tirisano Diamond Mine is located adjacent to the
Hartbeestlaagte property where Etruscan Diamonds is presently undertaking a
pre-feasibility study.

The acquisition of control of the Tirisano Diamond Mine operation together
with the surrounding Nooitgedacht property will allow Etruscan Diamonds to
consolidate the development of the diamond resources on the Nooitgedacht
property with those on its adjacent Hartbeestlaagte and Zwartrand
properties. The project on the combined properties will be known as the
“Blue Gum Project.”

Etruscan Diamonds also announced today that it has reached an agreement in
principle with Mogopa Minerals (Pty) Ltd. (”Mogopa”) to transfer a 26%
interest in the Tirisano Diamond Mine to Mogopa in consideration for the
payment of R26 million. Mogopa will replace Mvelaphanda Exploration as the
entity providing the black economic empowerment for the Tirisano project as
required by South African mineral legislation. Mogopa is also Etruscan
Diamonds Black Economic Empowerment partner on the Hartbeestlaagte and
Zwartrand properties in which it already owns a 26% interest. Mogopa has
accepted an indicative term sheet from the Industrial Development
Corporation of South Africa Limited (”IDC”) to finance Mogopas acquisition
of the 26% interest in the Tirisano Mine Joint Venture. Etruscan Diamonds
has also accepted an indicative term sheet from the IDC to provide an
additional R25 million to fund additional working capital requirements to
reactivate the Tirisano Mine. These financings have been approved by the
IDCs credit committee and closing is expected to occur in October.
